In 2009, the LA City council voted to redraw neighborhood boundaries again, allowing an area of about 1,800 homes in Van Nuys to join Sherman Oaks. In 1994, the Northridge earthquake caused damage to the surrounding area. The Community Redevelopment Agency sought to lead the rebuilding efforts. The Sherman Oaks homeowners later won a lawsuit preventing the agency from managing the efforts.
