Sands Point, with a zip code of 11050, is a wonderful community on the North Shore of Long Island, New York, United States, located near the northernmost tip of the Cow Neck Peninsula in the Town of North Hempstead, Nassau County. It is part of the Greater Port Washington region centered in Port Washington. At the time of the 2010 census, the population was 2,675.

The community was founded in 1910 and is named after the Sands family. Barkers Point and Motts Point were integrated into the village in 1917. Many residences were erected on 1-acre (4,000 m2) parcels in the 1960s when construction rules were less stringent. Subdivisions and lots of 2 acres (8,100 m2) or more are permitted under current zoning.

The community has a whopping total area of 5.6 square miles (15 km2), of which about 1.4 square miles (3.6 km2) (24.56 percent) is water, according to the US Census Bureau. The famous Long Island Sound to the north, Manhasset Bay to the west, and Hempstead Harbor to the east surround Sands Point. The solemn villages of Port Washington North and Manorhaven and the unincorporated hamlet of Port Washington share land borders.

The well-known Cow Neck Peninsula (also known as the Port Washington Peninsula or Manhasset Neck) is bounded by Manhasset Bay, Hempstead Bay, and Long Island Sound. Sands Point and Port Washington are strategically located on the Cow Neck Peninsula (also known as the Port Washington Peninsula or Manhasset Neck).

There are no areas within the wonderful Village of Sands Point zoned for business, commercial, or industrial uses. Sands Point is locally considered a bedroom community of New York City, and many inhabitants travel to and from New York for employment.

Sands Point (Port Washington/Manhasset Neck) was referred to as "East Egg" in F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 novel The Great Gatsby. Because Sands Point had "ancient money," East Egg residents inherited their riches and were more respected than the nouveau riche in the newer "West Egg" (Great Neck/Kings Point). The story's fictional Buchanans lived in Sands Point's western section. According to reports, Fitzgerald allegedly utilized the location and its parties as inspiration for the fictional Buchanan residence in East Egg while a guest at Herbert Bayard Swope's mansion on Hoffstot Lane at Prospect Point in Sands Point.

38.3 percent of the 872 homes had children under 18, 80.6 percent were married couples, 4.1 percent had a female householder without a husband present, and 12.6 percent were not families. Individuals made up 10.4 percent of the homes, and 7.1 percent included someone living alone who was 65 years old or older. The average family size was 3.21 members, while the average household size was 3.03.
