Point Lookout is a beautiful hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in Hempstead, Nassau County, New York, in the United States, with a zip code of 11569. Senator William Reynolds of Brooklyn headed a group that bought the entire barrier island in 1906. In 1918, a fire nearly destroyed Nassau By the Sea. In the 1920s, Senator Reynolds founded Point Lookout Inc., which built concrete streets and split the community into tiny plots sold to families for around $2,500 each, resulting in the Point Lookout neighborhood. Those bungalows that survived the fires at Nassau By the Sea and those from neighboring marsh islands were relocated to Point Lookout and are still visible today.
