The area was named East Hills due to its geography and location. "East" reflects its proximity to Roslyn, and "Hills" describes its hilly geography. The post-war era ushered a population boom and suburbanization across the United States, leading to the construction of new developments in East Hills.

One of these developments was Strathmore, developed by Levitt & Sons in the 1940s. Another notable development was the Country Estates subdivision developed by Country Estates, Incorporated. Before building East Hills' Country Estates, the firm developed the Flower Hill Country Estates subdivision in Flower Hills.

Geography

According to the Census Bureau, East Hills has an area of 2.28 square miles of land. Portions of the village located on Harbor Hill are among the highest areas in Nassau County and Long Island. The village further gained territory between the 1960 and 1970 census.
